Day 1 – Oct 3 (Sunday): Arrival in Lisbon, Portugal
Day to arrive in the capital of Portugal, the closest European destination to Brazil. If you can arrive one or more days earlier, it will be great to have more time to enjoy the city!
Day 2 – Oct 4 (Monday): Lisbon, Portugal >> Piódão, Portugal | 307 km
Our first stop will be at the Sanctuary of Fátima, a very popular destination for those visiting Portugal. Along the way, we will ride through the Serra da Lousã, a tourist area frequented by Portuguese motorcyclists. Many animals can be spotted. We will stay in Piódão, considered one of the most Portuguese villages in Portugal, with several stone houses with white and blue windows nestled in a valley.
Day 3 – Oct 5 (Tuesday): Piódão, Portugal >> Serra da Estrela, Portugal | 150 km
The day begins with crossing the Serra da Estrela to the highest point in Portugal, at nearly 2,000 meters of altitude. Hundreds of curves await us until the peaceful town of Manteigas, known for its cheese and good food. Then we head to Belmonte, the birthplace of Pedro Álvares Cabral, where we will have lunch facing the castle of the Portuguese navigator. After lunch, it’s time to climb the mountain again and stay overnight at the top!
Day 4 – Oct 6 (Wednesday): Serra da Estrela, Portugal >> Douro Valley, Portugal | 220 km
A day to continue through the Serra da Estrela towards the village of Gouveia. We follow the road to a delicious stop to taste the best sausages and smoked hams in Portugal. Upon reaching the Douro River, we will be in the heart of Port wine production! We will visit the Douro Museum, which is located in the first wine-producing region to be recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 5 – Oct 7 (Thursday): Douro Valley, Portugal >> Salamanca, Spain | 275 km
After crossing the Douro River region, we head towards Spain. Salamanca is one of the richest cities in Spain in terms of monuments from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the classical and Baroque periods. We will spend the afternoon exploring the city, from its main square to the Plaza Mayor.
Day 6 – Oct 8 (Friday): Salamanca, Spain >> León, Spain | 208 km
Our first stop today is the city of Tordesillas, where the famous treaty between Portugal and Spain was signed, dividing the world. There is a lot of history behind this agreement that made Brazil speak Portuguese. León is famous for its Gothic cathedral and many other monuments and buildings.
Day 7 – Oct 9 (Saturday): León, Spain >> Picos de Europa, Spain | 247 km
Today’s route takes us to explore the Picos de Europa mountain range. One of the highlights is a road that winds through mountains with huge rocky peaks and is considered one of the most beautiful roads in Europe. Several other small towns nestled in narrow valleys will be visited, as is tradition among motorcyclists who know this region.
Day 8 – Oct 10 (Sunday): Picos de Europa, Spain
Rest or more curves? On this day, we can enjoy and explore all the roads of the Picos de Europa Natural Park, observing animals, the sea, and several charming small towns!
Day 9 – Oct 11 (Monday): Picos de Europa, Spain >> Santiago de Compostela, Spain | 370 km
A day to ride through the Cantabrian Mountains, a complex mountain range in northern Spain. Our destination will be the sacred city of Santiago de Compostela. Upon arrival, we will be able to walk a small part of the Camino de Santiago (French Way).
Day 10 – Oct 12 (Tuesday): Santiago de Compostela, Spain
A suggestion to explore this sacred city and visit its famous cathedral with a Baroque façade. The medieval streets are full of bars, restaurants, and shops. A day to rest.
Day 11 – Oct 13 (Wednesday): Santiago de Compostela, Spain >> Porto, Portugal | 275 km
The day begins along the Caminha River, the border between Portugal and Spain. After crossing into Portugal, we will visit the Palácio da Brejoeira, the epicenter of Vinho Verde–Alvarinho, considered one of the best green wines in the world. Next, we will visit the city of Guimarães, a historic city in the formation of Portugal. Its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, we will visit the city of Porto, one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in Europe.
Day 12 – Oct 14 (Thursday): Porto, Portugal >> Óbidos, Portugal | 310 km
As we head south, we will cross two beautiful mountain ranges by motorcycle and visit two more UNESCO-listed monasteries. Our destination is a small walled town full of charming little shops!
Day 13 – Oct 15 (Friday): Óbidos, Portugal >> Lisbon, Portugal | 170 km
We return to the capital along the coast, visiting the city of Sintra (one of the most beautiful in Portugal), Serra da Lua, and Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. After a photo at the Belém Tower, we return to celebrate with the famous Pastéis de Belém!
Day 14 – Oct 16 (Saturday): Lisbon, Portugal
