Over 7 days in Swedish Lapland, based in Kiruna, the ROXMOTORS Aurora Artic Experience combines snowmobiling across frozen rivers, husky sledding, time with the Sami people and a night inside the Icehotel — and, every night, the chance to see the northern lights.

An Arctic expedition, not a sightseeing trip

In winter the landscape becomes a white world of frozen rivers, silent forests and endless horizons. That is the setting for a rare kind of trip: a full immersion in the Arctic, where each day is designed to connect you to the nature, the local culture and the essence of exploring. Here you drive your own husky sled, ride your own snowmobile and fish through the ice — you do not watch any of it from a distance. Unlike every other ROXMOTORS route, this one is not a motorcycle trip: the vehicle is the Can-Am Lynx Ranger 59 snowmobile.

What you will experience in Lapland

• Northern lights — night outings in search of the aurora, including from the snowmobiles, throughout the week;
• Icehotel — one night in a room carved entirely from the ice of the Torne river;
• Husky sledding — around 5 hours driving your own sled along trails through forest and open country;
• Sami culture and reindeer — time with the original inhabitants of Lapland and a visit to a reindeer farm;
• Snowmobile expedition — frozen rivers, dense forest and remote country, with everyone taking turns at the controls;
• Ice fishing and snowshoeing — a walk out to a frozen lake, with lunch served on the ice;
• Kiruna mine — the largest underground mine in the world, plus Sweden’s largest sled dog kennel.

Route summary

• Day 1 — Kiruna: arrival at the gateway to the Arctic and the first hunt for the aurora;
• Day 2 — huskies: full winter kit handover and the sledding expedition, with a hot lunch on the trail;
• Day 3 — the Sami people: cultural immersion, the reindeer experience and an aurora hunt aboard the snowmobiles;
• Days 4 and 5 — snowmobile and Icehotel: the expedition across frozen rivers, snowshoeing, ice fishing and the night in the ice hotel;
• Days 6 and 7 — Arctic nature and departure: the Kiruna mine, Sweden’s largest kennel, a last night outing and the end of the tour.

Getting ready

Most visitors need only a passport valid for at least six months to enter the Schengen Area for stays of up to 90 days — check the rules for your nationality. Sweden is in the Schengen Area but uses the Swedish krona, not the euro. All the technical clothing for extreme cold is included; you only need to bring base layers. No previous experience with snowmobiles or dog sleds is required. Worth remembering that the aurora is a natural phenomenon: several night outings across the week greatly improve the odds, but no operator can guarantee it. About a month before departure we open a WhatsApp group with the road book, packing tips, paperwork and currency guidance.

Frequently asked questions

• Is this a motorcycle trip? No. The main vehicle is the snowmobile, and the route also includes husky sleds, reindeer sleds and snowshoes.
• Do I need snowmobile experience? No. There is instruction before the first outing, and the guide is with the group throughout.
• Will I definitely see the northern lights? The odds are high — we are above the Arctic Circle, in peak season, with night outings on almost every day. But it is a natural phenomenon and depends on clear skies and solar activity.
• Do we sleep at the Icehotel every night? No, just one. The other nights are in heated, superior category hotels.
• Can a non-riding companion join? Yes. Every activity is open to companions, and double rooms are available.
