Arctic Snowmobile Tour

Arctic Snowmobile Tour

An Arctic snowmobile tour means crossing, with your own hands on the bars, a world that only exists for a few months a year: frozen rivers that become roads, forests silenced under half a metre of snow and a sky that, on clear nights, opens into the northern lights. ROXMOTORS runs two routes in Swedish Lapland, of 7 and 9 days, both starting in Kiruna — with an individual snowmobile, full thermal clothing and specialist guides waiting for you on arrival.

Two formats, the same Arctic

The Aurora Arctic Experience, 7 days, is an immersion based in Kiruna: each day brings a different experience — husky sledding, Sami culture, a snowmobile expedition, ice fishing, a visit to the Icehotel — with evening outings in search of the aurora. The Arctic Snowmobile Safari, 9 days, is a real crossing: around 900 km over the snow through Sweden, Finland and Norway, sleeping in wooden cabins and fishing camps out on the tundra.

On both, every participant rides their own snowmobile and no previous experience is required — a valid car licence is enough. Riding training takes place before the first departure.

What you will see in the Arctic

  • Northern lights — visible on clear nights throughout the season, including on evening snowmobile outings;
  • Kiruna and the Arctic Circle — the gateway to Swedish Lapland, with its famous wooden church and the largest underground mine in the world;
  • Icehotel — a hotel carved entirely from the ice of the Torne river, visited on the 7-day route;
  • Husky sledding — driving your own sled through forest trails for around 5 hours;
  • Sami culture and reindeer — a visit to a reindeer farm and time with the original people of Lapland;
  • Treriksröset — the marker where Sweden, Finland and Norway meet at a single point, on the 9-day route;
  • The Atlantic coast of Norway — arriving at Hatteng, with the sea appearing at the end of all that snow;
  • Ice fishing — licence and equipment included, with lunch served out on the frozen lake.

Aurora Arctic Experience — itinerary at a glance (7 days)

  • Day 1 — Kiruna: private transfer and a first hunt for the aurora;
  • Day 2 — Husky sledding: each pair drives their own sled, with a hot lunch on the trail;
  • Day 3 — Sami culture and reindeer: travelling by snowmobile and an evening aurora outing;
  • Day 4 — Snowmobile expedition: a full day across frozen rivers, dense forest and remote country;
  • Day 5 — Snowshoeing, ice fishing and the Icehotel: lunch on the frozen lake and a visit to the ice galleries;
  • Day 6 — Kiruna mine and the aurora: the largest underground mine in the world and another evening snowmobile outing;
  • Day 7 — Kiruna: the town, the wooden church and the return transfer.

Arctic Snowmobile Safari — itinerary at a glance (9 days)

  • Day 1 — Kiruna: transfer to the camp near Jukkasjärvi, equipment handover and dinner in a traditional kåta;
  • Day 2 — Torne river to Soppero (75 to 85 km);
  • Day 3 — Karesuando/Kuttainen (120 km): 50 metres from the Finnish border, with ice fishing in the afternoon;
  • Day 4 — Crossing to Kilpisjärvi, Finland (140 km);
  • Day 5 — Treriksröset and Hatteng, Norway (80 to 120 km): the Princess Victoria Trail and the Atlantic coast;
  • Day 6 — Rostojaure and the high mountains (170 km): overnight at the Vårvi wilderness camp;
  • Day 7 — Heading south (120 km): to Lappeasuando or Killingi, depending on conditions;
  • Day 8 — Return to Kiruna (120 to 140 km);
  • Day 9 — Kiruna: return transfer, with around 900 km of Arctic behind you.

The route is preliminary: stage lengths and the line itself depend on weather, snow conditions, trail access, reindeer herds and the pace of the group.
