Motorcycle Tour of the Pyrenees

Motorcycle Tour of the Pyrenees

A motorcycle tour of the Pyrenees crosses from one sea to the other — the Mediterranean to the Cantabrian — on mountain roads linking Spain, Andorra and France. Over 11 days and roughly 1,900 km, the ROXMOTORS route leaves Barcelona, follows “La Transpirenaica” and sets aside full rest days in Bordeaux and San Sebastián, with 4 and 5 star hotels throughout.

Fine dining between two seas

This is the trip for riders who want mountain curves and a table worth sitting at. The route crosses most of the Pyrenees and their legendary passes, but alternates with stops that are destinations in themselves: Saint-Émilion and its Grand Cru wines, the pintxos of San Sebastián, the walled medieval city of Carcassonne, the Montserrat monastery set into the rock. A region most tourists have yet to find — and one European riders know very well.

What you will see in the Pyrenees

  • Montserrat Monastery — set among the mountains, with approach roads that justify the day on their own;
  • Andorra la Vella — one of the world’s smallest countries, with a lively centre, attractive shopping and thermal waters;
  • Collioure and Carcassonne — the French seaside village with its castle, and one of Europe’s best preserved medieval cities, a UNESCO World Heritage Site;
  • Bordeaux and Saint-Émilion — the wine capital and a free day among the châteaux and long lunches;
  • San Sebastián — beaches, architecture and Basque cuisine, with a stop in Biarritz on the way;
  • La Transpirenaica — the mountain crossing to Boltaña, the most demanding and most beautiful day of the route.

Getting ready

Most visitors need only a passport valid for at least six months to enter the Schengen Area for stays of up to 90 days — check the rules for your nationality. Andorra is in neither the Schengen Area nor the European Union, but it uses the euro and is reached from within the Schengen zone. An International Driving Permit is recommended, and the mandatory travel insurance is already included. Temperatures drop sharply on the mountain passes, even in autumn — pack a thermal layer. About a month before departure we open a WhatsApp group with the road book, packing tips, paperwork and currency guidance.
